Mallards - A Little Time For Courtship in Lake Barrington

Posted on: March 23, 2012

A rainy morning here in Barrington and three ducks out of water decide my front yard is the place for a little courting. I watched these 3 for a few minutes and she is favoring to Mr Mallard on the left, not that he seems to care. Men!

Cats Warming Up on a Cat Tree

Have you ever wondered why cats like climbing trees. Today on a winters day my 3 black cats are on their climbing tree because it's a little chilly and they know that heat rises, so top spot gets the warmest air.

Cats
That's Twinkie at the top, below her is Joey and hiding in the cubbie is Shadow. He thinks I cannot get to him to put medicine on a skin rash, he's wrong but I'll leave him be for now. Shadow and Twinkie are twins but these 3 get along very well. Our other cat is asleep in her bedroom upstairs.

Early Morning in Barrington - Signs of a Bright Day To Follow

Barrington_early_morning_moon
Winter. Really? It's 7am and the moon is low, the skies are blue and it's going to be such a bright sunny day today. No snow, no ice, not cold at all, I think we are headed for 50f today. Unbelievable. Enjoy.

Twinkie The Cake Cat

Twinks
Anyone who knows me, knows I like animals. Cats are easy for me because I am in and out of the house all the time. This is Twinkie, she thinks she's a cake cat, fitting for her name don't you think?

Barrington's Ponds in Winter

Dsc06712
Many of the ponds in Barrington are relative small like this one. In winter they freeze over but the ice can be very thin, like this one today. It's freezing overnight but now the sun is out I expect the Canadian geese will be back sometime today for a swim.

A Slow Start To Winter in Barrington Illinois

Dsc06707
It's already December 18th 2011 and our winter here in Barrington is off to a very slow start. So far we have had two dustings of snow this month, and Saturday 17th early morning we actually got an inch of snow. Overnight we had fog which fell and settled like frosting on the road, grass and bushes. My shrub actually looks like it has a coating of ice and I had to grab a photo of this as the sun may well shine today and it will melt very quickly.

The question on my mind is: Will we have a white Christmas? I hope so, it would make me smile.

First Snow of The Winter 2011 Season in Barrington Illinois

Dec2_2011
Winter in Barrington can give you that warming feeling. The first snow of the season is usually a dusting, just like we got overnight. While for many it signals the start of a cold and tough driving season, it also makes you think of real fireplaces, hot chocolate, building snowmen with the kids and of course Christmas.

If you like taking photos like I do, a white covering makes our area very pretty and hides the dying grass and shrubs, coating them with crisp clean winter white. Winter is my favorite season, even though I'll have to shovel the path and snow blow the drive later on.
